One More Week

So, I volunteered was elected to be the birthday organizer/decorator/card buyer and passer arounder for my office. This is ironic because I am the worst at remembering birthdays. (Anyone who reads this blog should already know that about me). I have a list of all my co-workers' birthdays right next to my computer and I still don't remember them.

Maybe this new responsibility will force me to be better.

So, I spent some time on the card aisle at Target today. I love, love cards. The writers are so hilarious - for the most part. I was laughing out loud today. People were watching. It's fine because I was having such a good time. Of course, the funniest ones were not work appropriate, but I did find some good ones.

Here's the one I bought for my birthday - (pssst, it's in a week!)

(we've all been there, right?)

Then this is the inside:

Yeah, it's not weird at all that I picked out my own card.

Changing Lives - one Magnum Double at a time!

I have the incredible opportunity to be part of Big Brothers Big Sisters and get to 'mentor' an adorable girl named Justice (I can't remember if I've talked about her before on this blog). She's so great and such a blessing in my life. We hung out a couple of weeks ago and I had to introduce her to Magnum. So we headed to the nearest Walmart. Unfortunately, they didn't have Magnum Doubles, so we got ones with almonds. They were great, but not as good as Magnum Doubles. I told Justice that she'll just have to wait to have her life changed another day. I'm sure she thinks I'm crazy.

(not the best pics - sorry. I don't have time/desire to edit them)

Then, a couple days later, Anna, Angie and I stopped at the exact same Walmart on our way to the drive-in theater in Mt Pleasant and found Magnum Doubles. Hooray!

It was such a great night!

Anna and Angie are currently on a study abroad trip in Ireland. I'm so jealous, but super excited for all of their adventures - and that they get to drink European Orange Fanta which is liquid heaven.

Mother's Day

It was so great to talk to Jordan on Mother's Day. Janae and I went home (as stated in my last post) to see my Grandma Joyce, my mom and to take part in Jordan's Mother's Day phonecall - oh, and - of course, it was cool to see my Dad also. It was an overall great weekend - actually only 24 hours. We didn't get to stay very long, but I'm so glad we went.

Jordan is doing so well. She sounds awesome. I got to talk to her in Spanish for a little bit and she's doing great with it. I'm so proud of her! We only got to talk for 40 minutes and it went by super fast. I miss her so much! Since the rest of the fam didn't get to come home for the big call, we called them on cell phones and held them up so they could hear Jordan.

(Yep, Cade is 'Bubbles' in my phone)

As we were leaving, Mom and Dad followed the Scanlon tradition of literally pushing the car out of the driveway. I promise it's a sign of affection and not that they want us gone!

I have the best parents in the world. Aren't they adorable?

Hoarding

So, it's been a busy (very busy) couple of weeks and my room has definitely been neglected. I opted out of hanging out with friends a couple of days ago to go home and clean because it was driving me crazy. My friend Amelia said she didn't believe that my room was really messy, so I texted her pictures to prove that I belong on an episode of Hoarders.

Here they are for your veiwing pleasure:

I know that I should be embarrassed, but I'm not. (Don't judge me for the empty Mtn Dew bottle - little by little). Don't you love how I made paths through the clutter/debris (insurance terms) to get to my bed and closet. Don't worry about it. (My mom is so proud!)

Less than an hour later, this is what my room looked (and currently looks) like:

I say that it's not so bad if it can be cleaned in less than an hour. My roommates even inspected it to make sure I didn't just shove it behind my bed or in my closet.

Life goes so much better when my room is clean. It really does.

Cleanliness really is next to godliness...

Home Sweet Home

My dad is an (amazing) architect. Really talented. When he was 27, he designed and built a house for his growing family. I was 18 months old when it was finished and we moved in.

It's such a cool house. Unfortunately, when I was 10, we moved away and now some other family calls it home.

Janae and I went to Hailey for Mother's Day and we decided to swing by the old house and check things out. It's in Jerome, ID (please don't tell anyone I lived there!) and it's been years and years since I have seen it.

The first thing we noticed was that the current owners re-did the outside. It was originally light brown siding (which was a beast to paint every few years) and they put stucco instead. I can't say that I love it, but they don't care what I think.

We drove around the outside and reminisced the past for awhile. Then we noticed that a guy was out checking the mail so we drove up and told him who we were and he invited us in! It was so cool. It seemed so small compared to when I was 10. Here are some pics: (I have no shame).

(They still have the early 80's doorbell - love it!)

(Look! Our name is still on the mailbox!)

It was such a great trip down memory lane. It was crazy how small it all seemed, but so cool to be able to take a tour. There is a lower basement (we called it the bottom basement) that was unfinished when we lived there. It was the coolest place to ride our big wheels and just play around. They have finished it now, so it was a little weird to be down there.

Hopefully, one day I can be rich enough to buy it (and have a vacation home in Jerome?) just because my daddy designed and built it so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Heaven On Earth

The most exciting thing happened today!!! I can't quite believe it!

MAGNUM ICE CREAM BARS ARE NOW IN AMERICA!

WOOHOO!

Seriously, high fives all around the kitchen!

If you have never had a Magnum Double (that's what they're called in Spain) you really don't understand my excitement and you are completely missing out.

I was introduced to this frozen heaven on a stick by my trainer, Hermana Christensen, during my first week on my mission in the Canary Islands. My first area was on a real-life desert island called Lanzarote. We had had a super long, hot day of knocking doors with no success so, on our way back to our piso, we stopped by a little tienda where my life was forever changed. Magnum ice cream is seriously the best stuff on earth.

I literally screamed out loud when I saw the commercial. My roommates and neighbors think I'm straight up crazy. I am ----------> for Magnum.

In fact, I'm going to the store right now!

Please try it ASAP and let me know what you think!

Play Time

Look who I got to hang out with today!

They are seriously three of the most awesome kids I know.
